My teaching philosophy is rooted in the idea that students should learn through their experiences in a positive environment. Students will do this using a humanistic approach, which will create a genuine learner-centered classroom experience. By doing so learning will become relevant to each student and it will allow them to give their voice when it comes to the content. The encouraging environment will come from creating positive relationships. I will encourage and be a role model of this to the students. Social studies is more than just memorizing dates and facts. The relevance students gain comes from relating the content to the contemporary world and to themselves. It is the use of those facts to understand and evaluate the content, allowing students to engage and develop a greater understanding of the content. By learning this way, their 21st Century Skills will improve. They will see the relevance and importance of a genuine academic education, thereby further developing their character. Students will also see their value, understand themselves, know where they belong, and realize the endless limit of their abilities. I plan to do this all while having fun, being positive, and learning from students so I can give the best experience to them day-to-day. My future students deserve the best from me and that is what I will give.
